Rugby World Cup 2011
Waihi Beach Lodge is an idyllic spot to chill out between games as the central location means you can see so much more of the North Island hotspots like Rotorua, the Coromandel and Waitomo Caves while using Waihi Beach Lodge as a base.
Waihi Beach is located on the east coast 1 ½ hours from Auckland International airport, 2 hours from Auckland city, 1 ½ hours from Rotorua and 1 ½ hours from Hamilton.
From Waihi Beach you can take day trips to see the Coromandel, Waitomo or Rotorua and also have time to see the gold mining history of Waihi and Karangahake or you could do one of the many walks either in the Karangahake gorge or around the beach.
Evening meals are covered with 5 great cafes at Waihi Beach along with an RSA, a boating club and the local pub where you will be made most welcome.
Your hosts are rugby nuts and understand the needs of rugby fans so you will be well catered for. Greg & Ali also know the local & surrounding areas very well and can provide advice on activities and attractions. Greg has been to two Rugby World Cups whilst Ali has been to one. Greg has been involved in rugby for nearly fifty years either as a player, coach or manager but latterly as a fan.

General local rugby information
The Waihi Athletic Rugby Club is the local club and dates back to the late 1800’s and was one of the major forces in Thames Valley rugby in the early days.
All the rugby players from Waihi Beach play either in bigger centres like university towns such as Hamilton, Dunedin or Palmerston North, and in smaller local towns Waihi, Paeroa Katikati or Whangamata.
At Waihi Beach several former All Blacks have holiday homes - John Kirwan & Grant Fox are sometimes seen over the summer as is the current Welsh & Lions assistant coach & former Waikato coach Warren Gatland. Also seen in recent times were Adrian Cashmore , Carl Hoeft. & Johnno Gibbes.
The Super 14 team The Chiefs have trained here at Waihi Beach in recent years and the Waikato NPC team played a warm up practice game up in Waihi in 2008 against a Japanese side. |
