Today was part two of bees being added to the original hive at Waihi Beach Lodge. The original hive was started approx 1 month ago.
The original box of bees has been doing real well so an additional layer has been added - our queen is doing her job and the bees theirs. We have named the Queen bee Lucy and we hope she can do her job of making a successful hive and plenty of honey for the next few years ( 5 would be good)
You will see from the images below the change in shape of the hive and from now to Xmas the bees will be making honey so we are told. We have very good honey sources close by with at least 6 pohutakawa trees within 100 metres as well as some banksia trees and other fruit trees - lemon, orange, mandarin to name but a few as well as the various flowers that are close by.
Our aim is to provide a help for the bee population in general and also to help with local pollination with a delicious by product providing ourselves with our own honey
